Education
Community education is a key component of Crime Prevention. Through these programs, residents of all ages, from toddler to senior, can partner with the Police Department to keep themselves and the community safe. The following programs are available free of cost to community members:
- Safety Presentations: Available upon request for community groups, businesses, and schools of any age on a variety of safety topics such as home/personal safety, bullying, internet safety, and drug prevention and education.
- Station Tours: Available upon request for local community groups.
- Neighborhood Watch: Get your neighborhood together to learn about how to keep your home and community safe. Presentations by police personnel are provided to Neighborhood Watch Groups to educate and inform them on crime trends and crime prevention techniques. Learn more about the Neighborhood Watch program at the National Neighborhood Watch website.
- Citizen Academy: This bi-annual 9-week program is hosted at the Chino Police Department and entails classroom presentations, activities, and demonstrations one night a week for three hours. The objective of the program is to educate the community on the various aspects of law enforcement, build relationships, and create ambassadors. Participants must be 18+ and work, live, or attend school in Chino.
- Youth Academy: The youth version of the Citizen Academy takes place once per year during the summer over four consecutive days. Students participate in activities, presentations, demonstrations, and field trips highlighting the various aspects of the law enforcement profession. Students must be entering high school, and live or attend school in Chino.
- Mentoring Alliance of Police and Students: The Mentoring Alliance of Police and Students (M.A.P.S.) program combines all of the youth programs available for schools. Check out the M.A.P.S. Guide (PDF) to see details on the programs available and how to coordinate hosting them for your Chino classroom or school.
